Need help with new hair style?

Ok the thing is I am trying to grow my hair out longer but I want to get it styled because the style I have now is so blah. I was thinking about getting bangs that are short but not too too short and I don't want my hair any shorter because I can't wear it up and I need to be able to because I am a server. So this is my hair now....

My friend said my hair is too short for this style.



Also I am thinking about changing the color and maybe highlighting it.



So if anyone has any ideas it would be great. Oh and don't tell me to look online or in magazines...i just bought 3 hairstyle magazines and I've been looking online. I just want people's opinions. Thanks!Need help with new hair style?

Maybe lighten your hair to a different tone of brown then have blonde highlights through the top....
